1. Don’t Choose a Niche That is Too Narrow

Some people become obsessed with choosing a little tiny niche like “Scuba Diving in Cayman Islands” or “iPod Batteries”. By doing this you limit the success.

2. Choose a Niche That Appeals to Everyday Hobbies & Interests

It is very important that your site covers a niche that people have a hardcore interest in. Ideally something that many people will be thinking about or doing almost daily. This is the key to making a site that has repeat visitors from a hardcore following

3. Don’t Go Too Wide and Lose Focus

I mentioned that it is important to not go too narrow with you niche, but similarly it is also important not to go too wide with your niche. If you start covering too broad of a topic you start to alienate your audience by covering too many topics that individuals are not interested in. For example someone interested in Hip Hop would not visit a site about general music because it covers too much country and rock music as well.

4. Pick a Niche that is Product Focused

You need to pick a niche where people are actively buying products. This is because where people are spending money you will get much higher advertising revenues and affiliate commissions.

5. Pick a Niche that Has a Demand

This is fairly obvious – if the niche has nobody that is interested in it then you won’t get very many visitors.

6. Pick a Niche that is not too competitive

As well as having a niche that has a high demand, you also want to make sure you are not going to be swamped with competition. To do this we turn to Google and search for a number of keywords relating to our niche.
